Collinswood Language Academy fifth-graders Avery Zakocs, left, Rose Hollingsworth and Emma Wilkins say they were so inspired by reading about fundraising that helped schools that they decided to create their own fundraiser through the Junior Red Cross.

It’s called Coins for Cause, and proceeds go to rebuild schools affected by Superstorm Sandy. After the girls wrote a proposal and got their principal’s approval, they began their collection in early February. Their goal is to collect $727, or $1 per student at the school, by Feb. 15, but they hope to do even better than that.

All three want to help people on a large scale. “I wanted to make a difference,” Avery said. Rose said, “I wanted to make an impact on American society.” Said Emma: “I wanted to stand out and help.”
