1 dead in Caldwell shooting

GRANITE FALLS -- An elderly man is in jail and another is dead following a shooting on Kistler Lane in southern Caldwell County.

Caldwell County deputies say Ralph Barker, 71, shot his neighbor Danny Marlin Bowman, 67, in a dispute over the use of a driveway.

Deputies arrived on the scene at 5:22 p.m. Thursday and found Bowman dead in his vehicle with a gunshot wound. Barker was also found on scene and taken into custody without incident.

Barker is being held in the Caldwell County Detention Center without chance of bond. His first court appearance is set for Feb. 11 in Lenoir District Court.
