Travel club speakers focus on family travel

The February meeting of the Magellan Travel Club will feature Bill and Sue Terrell, who will offer an A/V presentation on the year they spent organizing a family trip to Switzerland – a process that involved all family members. FEB. 16 Burnsville

Event honors chronicler of early country music

Riddlefest – Feb. 16 at Burnsville’s Town Center – honors Yancey County native Lesley Riddle, an African-American musician who traveled the Southeast with famed singer/guitarist A.P. Carter in the 1920s, documenting and recording Carter’s contributions to country music. A free seminar on capturing mountain life through story and song begins at 1:30. Singer/storyteller Michael Reno Harrell and mountain musician Laura Boosinger will headline a 7 p.m. festival concert ($10. Details: www.tvgnc.org.
