Another bookstore chain is closing in southeast Charlotte, as Books-A-Million said Friday the company will close its Cotswold Village store.
An email sent to customers Friday said the Cotswold Village store is liquidating its inventory, with a 20 to 50 percent off sale that began on Friday. The store likely will close in mid-March.
Books-A-Million opened in Cotswold Village in 2005, the same year as Joseph Beth. The store had formerly been an Old Navy location.
The closure follows SouthPark bookstore Joseph Beth Booksellers in 2010 and Borders in 2011. Barnes & Noble still has a store in the area, and independent retailer Park Road Books also has a store within a few miles.
And although many bookstores have closed in the area, the empty space has not sat idle. The Joseph Beth store in SouthPark became the location for the city’s first Container Store, selling home organization goods. And the former Borders l in Morrocroft Village was reopened last year as a DSW shoe store.
As of September, the 257,000-square-foot Cotswold Village was 95 percent occupied, according to Bloomberg data. Major tenants include Harris Teeter, Petsmart and Marshalls.
