I would have thought that after losing their brother, our girls would be kinder to and closer with each other, especially at their ages now. Well, that and the fact there will be no additional siblings coming along… Perhaps deep down, they really do care, but sometimes I wonder; sometimes their words would lead you to believe otherwise…

I love my sisters like crazy and appreciate them far more as an adult than I ever did when we were growing up. Way back when, as the eldest child, I resented the responsibility of looking out for them all the time; I didn’t ask for or want their affection and attention. Even so, when trouble came their way, it bothered me to see them punished; I frequently wanted to barge in and tell my father to let them be…

As we grew older, I finally realized an important truth: my sisters are the only people in this world who completely understand how I came to be me… They know because they lived through the same formative stuff that I did. It shaped who we are today…

For example, we all maintain well-stocked pantries and are fairly obsessive about keeping laundry and dishes caught up. Several years ago, unbeknownst to each other, my youngest sister and I purchased identical pairs of Nike cross trainers from department stores in our respective cities; we only discovered it after walking into Mom’s living room wearing them at the same time! And if once wasn’t enough, we did it again about six months later! The same pair of athletic shoes, purchased a hundred miles apart…

We all have very different personalities but there is no mistaking the sisters’ three… Similar speech patterns, mannerisms, habits and ways of thinking leave no doubt about it…we are family…

I hope someday soon Beth and Grace will move beyond the petty rivalries and pointless bickering to finally recognize each other for what they truly are: ready-built lifelong friends and the strongest of allies.

With so many things in this world conspiring to drag you under, it’s consoling to know someone’s on your side, no matter what. That’s what sisters-or brothers-are all about.

Brothers and sisters are as close as hands and feet.” ~Vietnamese Proverb

“If you don't understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child.” ~Linda Sunshine

Wishing you many blessings…tg
