1 of 2 bald eagle eggs hatch at Raptor Center

The Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville saw one of two bald eagle eggs hatch Saturday afternoon.

Bird curator Amber Rosintoski said the nest is watched by WCNC-TV’s Eagle Cam and online fans knew the egg was hatching before center staff did.

“We’re really excited to have a baby. It’s really fun this time of year watching them grow up,” Rosintoski said.

She said she expects the second egg, if it’s viable, to hatch in the next few days.

Eagle parents Savannah and Derek came to the center as adults in 1998, began laying eggs in 2004 and the first successful pair – Len and Lola– hatched in 2006.

Rosintoski said they’ll likely involve the public in naming the baby eagles sometime in the next 12 weeks. Information will be posted at www.carolinaraptorcenter.org. Hilary Trenda
