Residents seeking assistance with their federal and state returns have several options this year.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is offering assistance at several sites. Volunteers are IRS-certified and trained by the North Carolina and South Carolina Departments of Revenue. Volunteers will electronically file federal and state income tax returns at no charge.
Site locations are:
• Rock Hill City Hall on the first floor in the Wellness Center, 9 a.m-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Monday through April 15.
• Rock Hill Galleria, 2301 Dave Lyle Boulevard Rock Hill: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Feb. 23.
• Leroy Springs Recreation Complex, 971 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Feb. 23.
• Clover branch of the York County Library, 107 Knox St., 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturdays through Feb. 23.
People seeking assistance are asked to bring their W-2 and 1099s, information regarding other income, deductions/credits, a copy of last year’s tax return and proof of account for direct deposit of refund. Also bring Social Security or Individual Taxpayer Identification cards for you, your spouse and/or dependents and proof of identification for yourself and/or spouse.
Appointments are not required. Bring a copy of last year’s tax return, Social Security card, picture ID, any W-2 or 1099 forms and other forms show other income or deductions.
The opening of tax season has been delayed this year due to Congress not passing the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 until Jan 1. The Internal Revenue Service estimates that most households will not be able to start filing until late February or March because of the need for publications and forms that are not yet available.
York County Libraries have a limited supply of South Carolina income tax forms, IRS 1040 EZ publications and forms, and other miscellaneous IRS forms. Libraries have not yet received IRS 1040 publications or forms. The amount of publications and forms supplied to area libraries by the IRS has been greatly reduced from last year in an effort to encourage electronic filing. Libraries will not be able to order additional forms once supplies are depleted.

York County Library staff cannot answer any tax related questions other than availability of forms.

• FORT MILL The Charlotte Knights are holding a job fair for game-day employees for the 2013 season from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the Budweiser Brewhouse at the stadium. .
The Knights are hiring game day employees in the following areas: ushers, parking, ticket scanners, team store cashiers, restaurant servers, concessions cashiers, prep cooks and on-field entertainment/promotions.
Opening day is April 11 and the regular season ends Sept. 2. Those seeking to be a part of the Knights game day staff must be available to work nights and weekends beginning in April. The majority of weekday and Saturday games are played in the evening (7:15 p.m.) and most Sunday games are played in the afternoon (2:15 p.m.). All candidates must be at least 16 years old and should come to the job fair with valid identification.
Participants in the Knights job fair will need to complete an application which can be downloaded from www.charlotteknights.com. Employees are also subject to a criminal background check.
• The Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau has been reaccredited by the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program.
The Rock Hill/York County CVB was first accredited in 2008. At that time, the Rock Hill/York County Convention and Visitors Bureau was the first destination marketing organization in South Carolina to achieve the honor. “Achieving this level of excellence shows that our staff is committed to providing outstanding service and quality programs,” said Lisa Meadows, executive director for the Rock Hill/York County CVB.
• Jim Reno of Provident Community Bank has been promoted to senior vice president - York County Market Executive. He will manage the York County commercial development team.
Reno has been with Provident Community Bank for five years, serving as a commercial relationship manager. He has ten years of banking experience in York County. A native of Rock Hill, Reno is a graduate of The University of Tennessee and received a law degree from the University of South Carolina. He serves Rock Hill City Council.
• FORT MILL The Charlotte Knights and Belk, Inc., have signed a multi-year partnership agreement for BB&T Ballpark. The partnership also includes assets in the final year of Knights Stadium in Fort Mill for the upcoming 2013 season including the “Pink Knights” and Back to School Night. “Pink Knights” is the Charlotte Knights’ annual fundraiser for breast cancer awareness. The Knights will hold their 8th annual “Pink Knights” on May 11 at Knights Stadium.
• Jason Flora, marketing specialist with York County Economic Development Board, has been presented with a scholarship from the Friends Underwriting Economic Development to help offset costs associated with attending professional development classes.
Friends Underwriting Economic Development distributed $3,925 among five economic developers from throughout the 16-county region. This is the fourth year that the group has awarded scholarships, the largest number awarded at one time.
FUED is a group of real estate agents , property developers, accountants, attorneys, bankers and other professionals from around the region. The scholarships go to members of the Charlotte Regional Partnership 16-county region encompasses Alexander, Anson, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties in North Carolina and Chester, Chesterfield, Lancaster and York counties in South Carolina.
• Business innovation through education, design and technology is the theme of 2013 World of Work Speaker Series sponsored by York Technical College.
The next lecture in the series is by Emily Pilloton, founder of the nonprofit design agency Project H Design. Pilloton is also the author of Design Revolution: 100 Products that Empower People and Tell Them I Built This: Transforming Schools, Communities and Lives with Design-Based Education. Pilloton’s lecture is March 6at 6:30 pm at the Hood Center.
