The Cornelius PARC Department has recently begun offering Senior Fit Club, a fitness class for all fitness levels for adults ages 55 and up. The next session starts this week, either Tuesday/Thursday or Saturday.
The instructor, Jason Jedlick, said the class is “designed to promote stability and mobility for seniors. Nothing really intense. Increase strength just enough and also prevent falls.”Jedlick, his wife and their two sons live in Cornelius near Town Hall. He owns Muscles N Motion and is a certified personal trainer with more than 12 years fitness experience. Jedlick usually trains his clients in their homes or at Xtreme Fitness Center in the Food Lion shopping center. Senior Fit Club is held at Bailey Road Rec Center.Jedlick, 35, has just finished teaching the first session of this class and is getting ready to start session two. He really enjoys teaching Senior Fit Club and said that “for some reason, I’ve worked a lot better with older people. Even when I was 18, my fishing buddies were in their 40s.” The women and men in the class range in age from 55 to 93.About the exercise, Jedlick said, “Once people get to a certain age, once your mobility and stability start to go, people realize they need really want to be doing some exercise. It’s a good class to teach because it’s really gratifying for the people doing it.”The exercises in the class consist of “simple lunges, light resistance band work, with a focus on full range of motion rotations for hip stability. We do incorporate some cardio motion to speed it up a little bit.”The members of the class really value Jedlick as well. They appreciate that he works with each participant individually as needed. They described him as cute, respectful, but soft in the way he pushes them to work to their optimum abilities. “He laughs with us when we can’t do something and smiles when we can,” said one participant. “I don’t hurt any more when I get out of bed,” said another. And almost all of them have signed up for the class again.Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013
