Intruder shot in Mooresville apartment, police say

The resident of an apartment shot a suspect who was breaking into her home Sunday morning.

Police are investigating the shooting but Capt. Joe Cooke confirmed it was a domestic dispute and said “it’s was a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship.”

Cooke said the victim was home alone at her apartment on the 110 block of Colonial Ridge Circle when she fired a handgun at the suspect, who was breaking and entering, around 8:10 a.m.

The suspect was transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, then to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, with what Cooke described as non-life threatening injuries. As of Sunday evening, police had not released the identity of either person. Cooke said that no charges have been filed, and the case will be presented to the district attorney.
