Tuesday morning traffic update

Southbound I-85 traffic was congested Tuesday morning due to an early morning wreck. DAVIE HINSHAW - dhinshaw@charlotteobserver.com

Typical congestion problems are the biggest headache at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday morning for Charlotte-area motorists.

Earlier this morning, a wreck on northbound Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County caused miles-long backups. That wreck has been cleared, and traffic has resumed a normal pattern.

Here is the summary at 8:25 a.m.

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph between Providence Road and I-77.

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Carowinds Boulevard to Woodlawn Road.

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the lake down to I-485.

I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Poplar Tent Road to I-485.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Margaret Wallace Road to Idlewild Road.

South Boulevard near Remount Road ... Collision reported about 8:10 a.m.; minor delays.
