4 charged in Central Avenue-area robberies

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged four men in connection with two alleged armed robberies early Monday along the Central Avenue corridor.

The four suspects -- Juan Ramon Bergamasco, 18; Marlon Afredo Maldonado, 21; Daniel Dejesus Navarro, 20; and Oscar Omar Trejos, 21 -- were charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police say they were called about 1:20 a.m. Monday to the 3300 block of Central Avenue, near Briar Creek Road, after a man said he was jumped from behind by men who robbed him of items. The victim said there were three men involved in the attack, and police say he was able to supply a description of the men and the vehicle they fled in.

About 50 minutes later, police were called to the 3500 block of Burner Drive, about a block south of Central Avenue and a mile east of the other robbery. In this case, a man said he was walking home and was attacked from behind by men who demanded his wallet.

A short time later, police say, an officer from the Independence Division spotted a vehicle that fit the description of the suspects’ car. The officer followed the vehicle for a short distance and then stopped it.

Police say one of the victims identified the vehicle’s occupants as the men who robbed him.
