York County deputies are searching for seven sex offenders after they were unable to locate them during a county-wide sex offender registration check over three days at the end of January.
During the operation, deputies teamed up with South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents and U.S. Marshals to verify the address of 340 active sex offenders in the county and issued warrants for arrest for the seven offenders they were unable to find.
The sex offender compliance check is part of the South Carolina sex offender law, to perform at least once a year, an onsite verification of addresses of each sex offender in state counties.
“This should give the people of the community an assurance that the Sheriff’s Office is getting ahead of the sex offender registry, they are not waiting for something to happen,” said Kelvin Washington, the US Marshal for the District of South Carolina.
