Woman accused of embezzling from Iredell athletic association

The treasurer of an Iredell County youth athletic association was arrested this week on charges she embezzled from the organization.

Susan Williams, 39, of Troutman, is accused of using about $9,100 from the organization for her own personal use, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Williams had served as treasurer of the Cloverleaf Youth Athletic Association, which is based in Statesville.

The Iredell sheriff’s office said it received a report on Jan. 18 from the association’s president that $9,102 had been withdrawn from the organization’s account through several ATM transactions. The group’s president told investigators the money had been withdrawn by Williams, who was responsible for making purchases for the organization and had access to its account, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

“Upon further investigation, after obtaining a written statement from Ms. Williams, it was found that she did in fact withdraw the money and use it for her own personal use,” the sheriff’s office said.

Williams was arrested on Monday, and given a $3,000 unsecured bond.
