Every Valentine’s Day I’ve shared with Robert has been special, but now there’s an extra reason the day is so meaningful. This year we are blessed with Alice and every day with her has been wonderful (even the ones where she’s a handful). In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d indulge in a little puppy love and share some of her humorous quirks.

For me, the funniest thing Alice does is act like our bodyguard. She’s not a fan of Robert and I showing each other affection, so if we try to cuddle or kiss, Alice comes rushing over to break it up. We can’t really decide what her motives are. She may be saying “eww gross my parents are kissing.” She also might want to be a part of our cuddles. Either way it’s too funny to watch and sometimes I smother Robert in kisses just to mess with her.

Then again, she’s also curious. When we play videos on our iPhones, she’s quick to rush over and cock her head to one side. Sounds from the TV don’t bother her too much (unless they are animal sounds), but whenever we play a video on our devices, she’s instantly quiet and curious. She doesn’t just stop and stare either, she moves her head from side to side trying to figure out what the sound is. It’s adorable.

Topping all the adorable things our funny Valentine does, I love the way she cuddles. Alice doesn’t just lie on our laps; she snuggles in and then snuggles in again. It’s as if she wants to be as close to you as possible, and even when she is close, she wants to be closer. It can get a little overwhelming when she’s practically lying on your face, but I’d rather have a dog who wants to cuddle too much than not at all.

I say it every time I write about her, but we are very lucky to have Alice. She’s such a gentle, sweet-natured girl and so loving. I can’t imagine spending another day, let alone another Valentine’s Day, without her. Of course we got her a little Valentine’s Day gift and she’s been carrying it around everywhere. I can’t help wanting to spoil her every time I go to the store. What adorable little quirks does your pet have? Did you get a Valentine’s treat for your cat or dog? Please feel free to share on our Facebook page (I could talk pets all day). Oh, and Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
