Instead of punch at his bridge party, host August Post used lavender and citrus tea bags from Tea Forté to make iced tea. “It has a gorgeous pink color that’s perfect for ladies who lunch or anything that’s wedding-related, and it tastes great,” he says. He served it in a big silver punch bowl and floated oranges in it that had been sliced and frozen.. For August Post's bridge party, he kept the food light. He chose a chicken salad recipe from Observer Food editor Kathleen Purvis’ “Pecans” cookbook that was a huge hit. For the centerpieces, he spent $12 on white roses at Harris Teeter. He cut the stems to create a small “pave” (French for mound) of roses that he put in amber crystal flower pots. At bridge parties, typically there’s a prize for the highest score and one for the lowest. Host August Post found an old trophy at a thrift store for $1 and gave it, and a pretty individual tea set wrapped in a heart-shaped box, to the champion. The person with the lowest score was given a tea cup filled and tea bags. (Photo by T.Ortega Gaines - ogaines@charlotteobserver.com)
