ALBEMARLE -- An Albermarle man remains in custody after firing a handgun into an occupied vehicle earlier this month.
According to Albermarle Police, Otis Eugene Burns, 38, was arrested Feb. 9 for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, shooting into an occupied property/vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Authorities began investigating a call of shots fired in the South Bell Avenue area of Amhurst Gardens on Feb. 2. Detectives from the Gang and Narcotics Unit were able to determine Burns had fired a silver revolver into a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu while it was occupied by Eric Poole and Allen Byrd.
Officials said detectives also found a .357 caliber revolver and cocaine at Burns’ Dunlap Street residence.
Burns was convicted in 2003 of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to arrest reports. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at the Stanly County Jail with a court date of March 4.
