MOORESVILLE -- An Iredell County man is jailed and has been charged for alleged sex offenses that date back more than a decade, in some cases, authorities say.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says George Theophile Walker, 70, was arrested Tuesday and jailed under $250,000 bond. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree sex offense and two counts of indecent liberties.
Those charges are for alleged offenses in Mooresville. Iredell County authorities say police in Huntersville and Cornelius have obtained additional warrants against Walker for alleged crimes that took place in those cities.
The case developed Jan. 2, deputies say, when an 18-year-old woman contacted the sheriff’s offense and said she had been abused several times between the ages of 7 and 12. Deputies say Walker had access to the child, because he sometimes was her babysitter.
The woman alleged that the offenses took place in Walker’s residence, and also at locations in Huntersville and Cornelius.
