TROUTMAN -- A Troutman man has been accused of stealing cooper from an Iredell County company, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Jared Tyler Potts, 25, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two felonies -- breaking and entering, and larceny.
Deputies say a detective with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a breaking-and-entering case at SHA Mechanical Company, on Old Murdock Road in Troutman. The detective conducted several interviews about the case.
Authorities say the detective then went to company representatives, who were not aware of the theft. They discovered that 200 pounds of copper had been taken.
Potts was identified as a suspect, authorities say, and arrested.
Capt. Rick Eades of the sheriff’s office said detectives sometimes will begin an investigation before the victims are aware of it. He said that helps increase the chance of recovering stolen property and making an arrest.
And he said the tips and eyewitness information provided in this case are helpful.
“Citizens are always encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office with tips and information,” he said, adding that “citizens may remain anonymous in doing so.”
