Iredell man accused of dealing crack

HARMONY -- An Iredell County man has been charged with being involved with a ring that is selling crack cocaine throughout the northern part of the county.

John Fitzgerald Smyre, 45, of Hamptonville, was arrested last week and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine, and with maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance.

The sheriff’s office says the arrest followed a lengthy investigation. Detectives say they received tips that Smyre was involved in the ring. They say Smyre was carrying 13 grams of crack when he was arrested Feb. 7. The street value of the crack was $5,200, according to authorities.

Investigators say others were involved in the drug ring, and they expect additional arrests.
