GAINESVILLE, Fla. A three-run home run in the bottom of the first proved to be the difference as Duke fell 4-2 to No. 13 Florida on Saturday afternoon at McKethan Stadium.
Florida (1-1) took advantage of a slow start for the Blue Devils in the first as UF leadoff hitter Harrison Bader reached on an error and Richie Martin followed with a walk.
No. 9 Florida State 6, Rhode Island 2: The Seminoles (2-0) erased a late deficit, scoring five runs over the seventh and eighth innings at home.
No. 10 LSU 5, Maryland 1: Junior Brady Kirkpatrick tossed a strong six innings, but visiting Maryland was unable to capitalize offensively.
No. 21 Georgia Tech 10, Akron 3: Daniel Palka finished 4-for-4 as host Georgia Tech pounded out 14 hits.
No. 25 Virginia 13, East Carolina 9: The visiting Cavaliers scored 13 runs over the last four innings to rally.
Virginia Tech 9, UNC Wilmington 0: Just like last year, the visiting Hokies opened with three wins.
William & Mary 11, Clemson 2: The Tribe totaled 16 hits to defeat host Clemson. The Tigers dropped to 1-1.
Miami 5, Rutgers 4: Garrett Kennedy’s walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth gave Miami a dramatic victory.
Boston College 7, Elon 6: The Eagles tallied their first victory of the season with a comeback win.
Wake Forest 17, Alcorn State 2: The Deacons scored at least one run in seven different innings.
Davidson vs. George Washington, ppd.: Play was suspended with host Davidson leading 6-5 in the top of the 7th inning. Resumption of the game remains to be determined.
49ers vs. Delaware State, ppd.: Charlotte will now take on the Hornets at 1 p.m. Sunday.
