Affordable Care Act seminar Wednesday

Gaston Regional Chamber and CaroMont Health will hold an Affordable Care Act Seminar 8-10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Pine and Elm Rooms, 2525 Court Drive.

Michael Schenk, benefits compliance leader for Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA Inc., will talk about basic provisions of the Affordable Care Act effective in 2014; the impact on small and large employers; determining full-time employees using look-back guidelines; strategies for making 2014 ACA provisions manageable for employers; and additional fees on employer-sponsored plans being implemented in 2013.

S.C. growers workshop set

An upcoming workshop for farmers, growers and food producers will help launch a new program for businesses in South Carolina that want to sell to local restaurants and grocers.

The S.C. MarketReady program, a partnership between Clemson Extension, the S.C. Department of Agriculture and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, is holding a one-day workshop Feb. 27 to help food suppliers succeed in the modern marketplace.

The workshop is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Phillips Market Center at the S.C. State Farmers Market, 3501 Charleston Hwy., Columbia.

The cost to attend is $60 per participant, which includes lunch and materials. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 20.

A similar workshop will be held in April in Spartanburg.

Visitors group renews accreditation

The Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau has been approved for accreditation renewal by the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program Board of Directors.

. Every eight years a new application has to be reviewed by the DMAP Board of Directors.

Being an accredited destination marketing organization allows the CVB to maintain its standing in an elite group of DMOs having met the rigorous standards of industry accreditation.

There are 74 required standards to receive accreditation. DMAP accreditation standards cover topics including governance, finance, human resources, technology, visitor services, group services, sales, communications, membership, brand management, destination development, research/market intelligence and stakeholder relationships.
