Monday morning traffic update

One of the quietest morning commutes in weeks is coming to an end Monday morning with only a few problems in the Charlotte region.

Traffic volume was noticeably lighter on Presidents Day, with most schools closed for the holidays and some workers enjoying a day off.

There were a few scattered reports earlier of black ice, but that should be melting soon, with the sun up and temperatures headed into the lower 50s Monday afternoon.

Here is the 9 a.m. update:

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Village Lake Drive to Idlewild Road.

I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Poplar Tent Road down to I-485.

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Providence Road to South Boulevard. Also, an earlier collision has been moved to the right shoulder between Rea and Johnston roads.
