Through traffic on Interstate 485 in southern Mecklenburg County will be reduced to one lane on two nights this week, as part of the project that eventually will widen the heavily used roadway.
The N.C. Department of Transportation says the right lane on the inner loop of I-485 will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday near mile marker 63. And the left lane of the outer loop will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday near mile marker 67.
During that time, crews will bore holes at bridges over McMullen Creek and Sugar Creek. Lane Construction, contractor for the widening project, says one lane will be added in each direction on I-485, between Rea Road and I-77, by December 2014.
