Tuesday hoops: N.C. State, UNC take on ACC foes

Florida State (14-11, 6-6 ACC) at N.C. State (18-7, 7-5)

PNC Arena, 7 p.m., ESPN2

Everything that could wrong for Florida State this season, pretty much has. Guard Michael Snaer has been the only bright spot for the 2012 ACC champions and he has done his best to keep the season afloat. … N.C. State forward Richard Howell leads the ACC in rebounding (11.0 per game) and ranks sixth nationally. … Florida State is the only ACC team second-year coach Mark Gottfried has yet to beat. Joe Giglio

North Carolina (17-8, 7-5) at Georgia Tech (14-10, 4-8)

McCamish Pavilion, 9 p.m., WJZY

Sophomore P.J. Hairston scored a career-high 29 points and had seven rebounds in North Carolina’s 93-81 victory against Virginia on Saturday. He will be tested defensively tonight against Georgia Tech’s formidable frontcourt.

At times he’ll be asked to guard Robert Carter Jr. or Kammeon Holsey, two players are three inches taller than Hairston. … UNC freshman forward Joel James will miss his third consecutive game while he recovers from a concussion. … Georgia Tech’s defense has kept the Yellow Jackets competitive, and they rank 14th nationally in field goal percentage defense (37.9 percent).
