Hawks’ dance team wins state title

The Charlotte Latin dance team won a second consecutive state championship at the 2013 N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Invitational Cheer and Dance championship Feb. 9 at North Raleigh Christian Academy.

Charlotte Christian finished second and Providence Day finished third in the competition.

Conference swimming

The Providence Day girls’ swim team won the CISAA conference championship for the first time since the 1990s.

The Chargers finished with 241 points at the meet Feb. 7 at Charlotte Latin, beating second place Cannon School by seven. Charlotte Latin finished third, Charlotte Country Day fourth and Charlotte Christian fifth.

Charlotte Latin won the boys’ CISAA title with 258 points, beating second place Charlotte Country Day by 14. Charlotte Christian finished third, Providence Day fourth and Cannon fifth.

Conference wrestling

Charlotte Latin won its fourth straight CISAA team wrestling championship at Providence Day Feb. 7.

The Hawks scored 188 points. Providence Day finished second with 145.5 points, Charlotte Christian finished third and Charlotte Country Day finished fourth.

Charlotte Latin won championships in eight of the 14 weight classes: Foard Nauman (106), Ken Koch (113), Charlie Horvath (138), Matt Borin (145), Nick Boyd (152), Alex Julian (170), Sam Wilson (220) and Toby Okwara (285).

Providence Day won three championships: Amit Naik (120), Tanner Love (132) and Jordan Dix (195). Charlotte Country Day’s Akanimo Eyo (160) and Charles Haddock (182) won titles and Charlotte Christian’s Charlie Rand won the 126-pound class.
