Cornelius resumes commissioner hunt

By Elisabeth Arriero

The town of Cornelius is still seeking applicants to fill its fifth commissioner seat after none of the initial seven candidates received a majority vote from town commissioners, officials announced Monday night.

The seat was left open when commissioner Lynette Rinker replaced former Mayor Jeff Tarte, who was elected to the state legislature in November.

For the last several weeks, town officials have been reviewing applications from seven residents. They represented a range of backgrounds – from having no previous municipal experience to a former eight-term commissioner.

After the initial interview process, town commissioners said there was no one candidate who received their majority support and therefore the board would continue its search for a replacement.

Cornelius residents can submit resumes to town clerk Lori Pearson at lpearson@cornelius.org.
