RALEIGH N.C. State football player Logan Winkles was arrested on Saturday in Raleigh, and charged with driving while impaired and for being under the legal drinking age and driving after consuming alcohol.
Winkles, 20, has a court date in Wake County set for March 25, according to court documents. Winkles is the second N.C. State athlete in seven weeks to be charged with drinking and driving in Raleigh. Staats Battle, a former reserve on the basketball team, was charged on Jan. 1.
Winkles was pulled over at the intersection of Western Boulevard and Dan Allen Drive at 2:27 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and his blood-alcohol content was 0.12, according to the arrest report.
Winkles, a fullback, completed his junior season in 2012. He caught 10 passes for 90 yards, including his first two career touchdowns.
Winkles recently appeared with N.C. State coach Dave Doeren and 2011American Idol winner Scotty McCreery at PNC Arena during ESPNs College GameDay festivities. Winkles and Doeren played the guitar while McCreery, whos an N.C. State student, sang a Johnny Cash song.
We are aware of this unfortunate situation and will await the outcome of the universitys disciplinary processes before we determine what action to take or comment further, Doeren said in a statement released by the school.
Winkles will have to go through the disciplinary process with the Office of Student Conduct. Battle went through a similar process and is no longer enrolled in school.
