Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged the mother of a 4-year-old who accidently shot herself with negligent child abuse.
Marsharier Littlejohn, 36, was arrested on the felony charge Monday. Police responded to her North Davidson Avenue apartment home on Feb. 11 after hospital staff called to say the 4-year-old had shot herself in the leg with a handgun that she had found.
The girl was treated at Presbyterian Hospital and released. Littlejohn was originally charged with a firearms misdemeanor.
Littlejohn’s boyfriend, Leandre Budden, was later arrested on a misdemeanor weapons offense for allegedly failing to store a firearm and jailed under a felony fugitive charge, possibly relating to a pending case in South Carolina.
Littlejohn was in the Mecklenburg County jail Tuesday on the new felony abuse charge. Her bond was set at $25,000.
