Report: Check fraud committed against food bank

YORK Police are investigating a counterfeit check drawn on a bank account of a local food bank, according to a York Police report.

The report states on Feb. 15 an official at PATH, a York-based nonprofit food bank and assistance center for poor families, reported someone had stolen the agency’s bank account numbers and used them to make a counterfeit check.

The suspect, a 34-year-old Clover woman, tried to cash one of the counterfeit checks for $998 at an unnamed business, which led to the investigation. PATH has not lost any money because the fraud was discovered before funds were transferred from the account.
