Wednesday morning traffic update

Motorists are dealing with plenty of traffic problems in the Charlotte region at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Congestion is quite heavy this morning on the interstates, and there are several wrecks, including one on the outer loop of Interstate 485.

The 8:15 a.m. summary:

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

I-485 outer loop, south Mecklenburg ... Collision reported about 8 a.m. near Johnston Road; traffic moving 10-20 mph from I-77 to Johnston Road.

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from the lake down to I-485.

Highland Street (N.C. 273), Mount Holly ... Police activity; motorists should avoid this area.

Albemarle Road ... Congestion on inbound lanes; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Harris Boulevard to Sharon Amity Road. Also a collision at Albemarle and Sharon Amity is adding to the problems.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Village Lake Drive to Idlewild Road.

Plaza Road Extension at I-485 ... Collision reported at 7:30 a.m., with injuries; moderate delays.

Ballantyne Commons Parkway at I-485 ... Collision at 7:45 a.m.; moderate delays.

Rea Road at N.C. 51 ... Disabled vehicle; minor delays.

Billy Graham Parkway at I-85 ... Collision at 7:50 a.m.; moderate delays.
