Child hurt in Union County fire

A child suffered minor injuries early Friday when fire heavily damaged a home east of Waxhaw, the Union County fire marshal’s office says.

The fire was reported shortly after 4:30 a.m. in the 4600 block of John Craig Road, about one-eighth of a mile off Old Waxhaw-Monroe Road. That is about 2 miles east of Waxhaw.

Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the residence when they arrived. A 6-year-old child suffered minor burns, according to Fire Marshal Neal Speer, and was taken to CMC-Union for treatment.

Spear said investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze. He said damage to the house “was significant.”
