A middle school teacher in Monroe has been arrested on a charge of solicitation of a child to commit an unlawful sex act.
Raymond Douglas Nixon, 31, was arrested Friday by Monroe police and charged with one count of solicitation of a child by computer or certain other electronic devices to commit an unlawful sex act.
Police said Nixon is a teacher and coach at Parkwood Middle School, as well as a coach at Union Academy, and has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of their investigation.
Detectives began investigating Nixon on Dec. 28, 2012, after they believe he sent inappropriate text messages to a juvenile in the same Union County Department of Social Services group home where Nixon was working as a part-time staff member.
After his arrest on Friday, Nixon was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond with a March 20 court date.
