The US Airways - American Airlines merger could get clearance to take off next month from a bankruptcy court judge.
Bankruptcy judge Sean Lane has scheduled a hearing in New York on March 27. American Airlines has been in Chapter 11 protection since late 2011, and Lane must approve the merger plan in order for American to exit bankruptcy and combine with US Airways.
The merger, announced last week, would create the nations largest airline, with its second-busiest hub in Charlotte. In addition to Lane, the new company also needs approval from antitrust regulators.
US Airways and American hope to close their deal in the third quarter this year.
