I-77 chase ends after driver crashes into fence

A traffic stop by the North Carolina Highway Patrol on I-77 escalated to a pursuit Sunday night.

Troopers charged Roger Rios with speeding to elude, having a stolen gun and other charges.

Authorities tried to pull Rios over for speeding, but he took off on Beatties Ford Road and then onto Lakeview Road where the chase came to an end after Rios' car slammed into a fence.

Troopers said Rios and a passenger jumped out of the car after the crash and ran. They were able to track down Rios and the passenger a few moments after the chase.

There were many stolen items found in the car, as well as a ski mask and gloves, according to troopers.

No one was hurt during the incident.
