UNC Charlotte will host a day-long forum on natural gas fracking, the controversial drilling practice, on March 8.
The keynote speaker will be Seamus McGraw, author of “The End of Country,” a book about fracking in a rural community. Other speakers will include Frank Yoho of Piedmont Natural Gas and Mitch Gillespie, assistant secretary in the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
North Carolina legislation on fracking will be among the discussion topics. Legislators last year created a commission to write rules governing the practice, but a measure introduced this year would lift a state moratorium on drilling in 2015.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at UNCC’s Energy Production & Infrastructure Center. Register at https://epic.uncc.edu/events/natural-gas-fracking-forum. Bruce Henderson
