4 arrested during York DUI crackdown

Staff Reports
The Herald

YORK Four people were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a York Police Department DUI enforcement effort this weekend.

Police Chief Andy Robinson said additional officers worked from 10 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday to crack down on drunk drivers. One of the four DUI arrests was a result of a crash, he said. Several other citations and warnings were issued during the initiative, but DUIs were the main objective.

"The York Police Department plans to try and have at least one such DUI saturation effort per month in an attempt to crack down on DUI within the City of York," Robinson said in a statement. "DUI continues to be a leading cause of death resulting from vehicle crashes in the State of South Carolina and the York Police Department is dedicated to doing our part to reduce the number of DUI related deaths in South Carolina."
