We’re pleased to introduce Lindsay Ruebens as the Observer’s new Young Achievers reporter. She’s a Virginia native who went to Charlotte Catholic and received her journalism degree from UNC Chapel Hill. She’s worked in Arkansas, Dallas and Pensacola, Fla., in a variety of roles, and most recently covered community news for the Observer.
Three things you might not know: She’s a piano player. She considers “y’all” the best contraction ever invented (in English, at least). And it’s “Ruebens” because her great-grandfather, Morris, found his given name Rubin a little too commonplace and decided “to make all of our lives miserable.”
In addition to writing about youth achievements throughout the Observer area, she’ll be doing a Young Achievers blog, at obsyoungachievers.blogspot.com, and is always seeking ideas.
Email her at lruebens@charlotteobserver.com or call 704-358-5294. You can also follow her on Twitter @YoungAchCLT and find news on the Charlotte Observer Young Achievers Facebook page (at on.fb.me/WX9jjW.)
