The Center for Adolescent Literacy at UNC Charlotte, in partnership with United Way, is offering free training on Feb. 26 for those interested in tutoring an at-risk child through Project 1,000.

The training session will focus on helping children succeed in school. Attendees will also learn strategies for getting to know the student and building a relationship.

All volunteers who sign up for United Way’s Project 1,000 and attend the training will receive six new books to share with their student and a Project 1,000 tote bag.

The two training sessions will run from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Hope Haven Conference Center, 3815 N. Tryon St. in Charlotte

Volunteer attendees must register at http://project1000.eventbrite.com or email jcoates@uwcentralcarolinas.org,
