Heavy rain that fell during part of the Tuesday morning commute was responsible for a number of collisions and other problems in the Charlotte area.

Many motorists caught a break, however. There were no significant problems on any of the interstate highways or other major routes in the region.

Among the wrecks was an incident on Wilkinson Boulevard in which a car skidded and slid to a stop a short distance from the front of a building.

The driver of a BMW apparently lost control of the vehicle shortly after 9 a.m. near the Shops at Wesley Station shopping center. The car slid, hit a utility box, and then skidded up a small hill before coming to a rest just a few feet from the front of the store. No serious injuries were reported.

Flooding was reported on a few streets in the area after 10 a.m., and authorities were forced to close the ramp from the Brookshire Freeway to southbound Interstate 77 because of high water.
