CIAA focuses on area students Wednesday

Hundreds of Charlotte-area middle and high school students will be featured guests Wednesday at two major CIAA Tournament-related events.

The annual CIAA Middle School Day program, sponsored by NASA, and the CIAA High School Day event, backed by the National Education Association, take place throughout the morning and early afternoon hours at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Students from around the Charlotte region will be able to meet and talk with admissions officials, students and administrators from the CIAA’s schools.

Wednesday’s schedule also includes a bowling party and, of course, basketball. Six games are on the day’s schedule at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Wednesday’s events:

•  NASA’s CIAA Middle School Day: 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Charlotte Convention Center Ballroom.

•  NEA’s CIAA High School Day: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Charlotte Convention Center, Hall C.

•  CIAA Bowling Party Mixer: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., AMF Bowling Lanes, North Tryon Street.

•  Basketball: Virginia Union vs. Virginia State (women), 11 a.m.; Elizabeth City State vs. St. Augustine’s (women), 1 p.m.; Fayetteville State vs. Lincoln (women), 3 p.m.; Shaw vs. Winston-Salem State- (women), 5 p.m.

•  St. Augustine’s vs. Virginia State (men), 7 p.m.; Bowie State vs. Chowan (men), 9 p.m.

Transit news: Charlotte Area Transit System’s Gold Rush Red Line (Johnson C. Smith campus to 4th and McDowell streets) will run from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
