Traffic in western Mecklenburg County was snarled Wednesday morning by a multi-vehicle collision at the Interstate 85 interchange with Interstate 485.

An eight-vehicle collision about 8:30 a.m. blocked the ramp from northbound I-85 to the outer loop of I-485, headed toward the airport and Pineville. Crews cleared most of the wrecked vehicles, but the N.C. Department of Transportation estimated that it took several hours before all lanes were cleared again.

Two people were taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with non-life-threatening injuries, Medic said.
