Man pleads guilty to sex with young child

A Scotland County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges that he sexually assaulted the 1-year-old daughter of a woman he had met online and was dating.

Vincent McDougald, 43, of Laurinburg, entered a guilty plea to two counts of first-degree sexual offense of a child. The child’s mother, Darlene Enos, 37, also was charged in the case.

McDougald was arrested in July 2011. Investigators say a woman contacted the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office in Wilmington several weeks earlier and said a man she had contacted on Yahoo Instant Messenger said he had engaged in sexual acts with a young girl.

Detectives got a copy of the chat, which police said described sexual acts and identified the infant’s mother as “Darlene.”

At the time, police said McDougald and Enos had met online. Enos was living at an apartment on Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte.

McDougald was sentenced by Judge W. Robert Bell to between 23 years and 28 years 5 months in prison. After being released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Enos previously pled guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree rapeand conspiracy to commit first-degree sex offense, in connection with the case. No sentencing date has been set for her.
