Be a "good cookie"
Last year, Abbey Rogers, a Myers Park High School student, turned a school project into a full-blown 5K and Bake Sale to raise funds for Cookies for Kids Cancer, a national non-profit dedicated to granting funds needed to develop new, more effective and less harmful treatments for pediatric cancer. The organization inspires individuals nationwide to be Good Cookies by hosting bake sales and other community events to raise funds.
She was inspired by a young boy battling cancer named Grier, and soon she had a whole group of volunteers behind her. The event was a huge success, with 350 runners raising over $14,000, so she decided to hold it annually. This year's event will be held on March 23 and is sure to be fun for the entire family.
Registrations to participate/walk/run are still open through March 8th.
