Academy Sports + Outdoors is opening two stores next week in Cabarrus County, a move the company says is adding about 300 jobs to the local economy.
The Texas-based retailer, which sells hunting, fishing and camping gear, as well as golf and other leisure items and apparel, already operates stores in Hickory and Rock Hill.
The new stores will open March 8 at the intersection of Concord Mills Boulevard and Odell School Road in Concord, and at 2211 Elder Lane in Kannapolis.
We could not be more excited to add two new stores to this area for customers to shop our wide selection of products at our everyday low prices, Academy executive vice president Kevin Chapman said in a news release.
The company said each stores will be about 71,000-square feet in size and employ about 150 workers.
A check of the Academy career website on Wednesday showed the company was still looking to fill a variety of sales associate and other positions. View the positions at http://bit.ly/13WQz3o
While the official opening of the Academy stores is next Friday, the company plans to hold a sneak peak at the new locations on March 7. Also that day, the company will give 100 local youth from the YMCA and Boys & Girls Club $100 shopping sprees.
