I tend to equate Kohl’s with utility.

I shop there for deals on gym shoes and sweatpants, fleece jackets for men and clothes for kids.

But then, I got a nice surprise in the form of a cute ponte top – in a color the store is calling Vanilla Ice – from the chain’s Jennifer Lopez collection.

With cap sleeves, black faux leather trim at the waist and shoulders, and slimming peplum detail, it just might be the perfect top.

Wear it with a pencil skirt or slim black trousers or skinny jeans tucked into boots.

Wear it to work. Wear it to dinner. Wear it everywhere.

It’s $44 (though you’ll probably be able to get it on sale) at Kohl’s stores and www.kohls.com . Available in sizes XS-XL.

We tried it:

The product: Cindi Nails base coat and top coat.

The pitch: Follow directions on bottles and Cindi Nails – billed as an alternative to acrylic nails – will strengthen and improve the health of damaged or brittle fingernails. And it will make your manicure last longer.

The price: $12 each. To find a store or shop online: www.cindinails.com

T he pros: It really does strengthen. Kept my polish – I get a regular manicure, not a shellac or gel – from flaking off for almost two weeks.

The cons: You’ll have to make a special trip to a beauty supply store or shop online as opposed to picking it up at Target or a pharmacy. A little pricey – but it will save your manicure and, in the end, save you money.

T he bottom line: Worth it.
