A Charlotte man faces charges of assault and attempted rape after police responded to a 911 call and found him on top of his victim.

Raymond Glover, 23, was arrested Wednesday on those charges for allegedly forcing a 20-year-old woman onto a porch in the 1700 block of South Mint Street and trying to take her clothes off and rape her, according to a police report.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers arrived on scene around 9:44 p.m. after receiving an “assault in progress” call.

They observed the suspect on top of the victim, restraining her from fleeing, the report showed. One of the officers told Glover to stop.

He fled on foot but officers were able to apprehend him.

The victim told police that she knew Glover and that he had demanded sexual intercourse but forced himself on her when she told him no.

She said Glover struck her with his hands and fists while he was moving her to the porch to try to rape her.

She received minor injuries but did not seek treatment at a hospital.

Glover is charged with assault, attempted rape, kidnapping, resisting a police officer and misdemeanor larceny.

He was in the Mecklenburg County Jail Wednesday on $130,000 bond.
