Woman hurt in wrong-way Caldwell crash

GRANITE FALLS -- A woman was seriously injured Wednesday evening in a head-on collision in southern Caldwell County, police say.

The injured woman apparently was driving the wrong way, according to authorities.

The crash was reported about 8:30 p.m. on southbound U.S. 321, between Brady Creek and Pinewood Road. Police say the woman was driving northbound when her car collided with a southbound minivan.

The woman, who police described as elderly, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the minivan was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
