Youth Art Show: Artwork for the Mooresville Artist Guild’s ninth Annual Youth Art Show this month should be submitted in ready-to-display condition 3-5 p.m. March 3 and noon-3 p.m. March 4 at the Historic Depot Gallery, 103 W. Center Ave., Mooresville. Two-dimensional artwork should be matted and ready to hang with either wire or a sawtooth hanger but doesn’t need to be framed. Awards reception will be 6-8 p.m. March 8. St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Sponsored by the Mooresville Downtown Commission, the parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 9 on Main Street in downtown Mooresville, featuring a pipe band, an Irish wolfhound, Irish step dancers and dance groups. Thistledown Tinkers: The season’s final performance in the Mooresville Concerts series will feature the lively Celtic sounds of Trip Rogers and Tom Eure in full kilts at 7:30 p.m. March 9 in Joe Knox Theater at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, 215 N. Main St., Mooresville. Admission is $10 adults, $5 students, free for ages 9 and under. Pilates: The Cornelius PARC Department is offering an eight-week fitness class focusing on traditional Pilates movement patterns, the use of core breathing and correct alignment, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays March 4 through April 22 at Bailey Road Recreation Center, 11900 Bailey Road (Bailey Middle School). Model ship building: A free Model Ship Building Lunch & Learn with Andrew Pendleton will be 12:10-12:50 p.m. March 6 at the Iredell County Public Library, 201 N. Tradd St., Statesville. Pendleton will discuss building the 1:76 scale model of H.M.S. Victory, Admiral Lord Nelson’s flagship in the Battle of Trafalgar (now on display). Bring a brown bag lunch. Deputy finance director: Brian Barnett, former town manager of the town of Catawba, is Mooresville’s new deputy finance director. Barnett had been Catawba’s town manager since November 2010. He was Mooresville’s budget and benchmarking analyst from 2008 to 2010.

Viva Las Vegas Night: The North Mecklenburg Woman’s Club will host the Purple Heart Homes benefit from 7 to 11 p.m. March 9 at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville. Heider will discuss the positive effects weight loss surgery has on reducing and often eliminating health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Yard and bake sale: Saint Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 201 Fairview Road, Mooresville, will hold a yard and bake sale from 7 a.m. to noon March 16. The sale will include furniture, clothing, books, tools and baked goods. Proceeds benefit the Saint Patrick’s Youth program.

Document shredding: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 16, the Cornelius Police Department will host a Document Shredding Event in the parking lot of Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave. Take documents for shredding such as old tax documents, financial statements, cancelled checks, insurance documents and business records. Matter of Balance: Due to overwhelming response to its winter classes, the North Mecklenburg Senior Center, 16601 Old Statesville Road (Solid Rock Church), Huntersville will offer an additional free session of its Matter of Balance class noon-2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays March 18 through April 10. The classes help seniors reduce their fear of falling and increase their activity level. Registration: 704-875-1270.

Safe-boating classes: The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 26-01-5SR will offer one-day safe-boating courses on March 16, April 20, May 11 and June 15. The classes will lead to a North Carolina Boating Certificate. “A Gathering of Eagles: How many Eagle Scouts are there in Iredell County? Benefit basketball game: The Rotary Club of Cabarrus County will host a benefit basketball game at 7 p.m. March 9 at Jay M. Robinson High School between the Harlem Ambassadors and the Rotary Hoopstars, a team of area residents including some from 96.9 KAT Country in Charlotte. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door. Proceeds will be distributed to area nonprofits for use in their programs.

RESET Your Buttons: Mary Elizabeth Murphy, a Cabarrus County resident, chief executive officer of STAR Resources and author of “RESET Your Buttons,” will present three workshops on March 9 at BYOF (Bring Your Own Friends) Day at IKEA, 8300 IKEA Blvd., Charlotte. Murphy’s 30-minute seminars – titled "RESET Your Buttons: Recharge, Rejuvenate and Refresh for Spring” – will be at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m..

UFO meeting: The Mutual UFO Network of North Carolina will feature Scott and Suzanne Ramsey and their 30-year investigation of an alleged UFO crash in Aztec, New Mexico, from 1-4 p.m. March 16 at Embassy Suites Charlotte, 5400 John Q.
