Hemant Vallabhapuram, a senior at Lake Norman Charter High School in Huntersville, recently earned his Eagle Scout rank, the highest in Boy Scouts of America.
Hemant, son of Aruna and Ravi Vallabhapuram of Charlotte, is a Charlotte native and member of Troop 148 at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church in the University area.He was elected senior class president and is a karate black belt who has won various state competitions. He played for his school’s varsity tennis team and enjoys soccer, football and playing the trumpet.For his Eagle service project, Hemant created and executed a plan to help the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte, which needed more benches, storage for toys and a creative way to collect pop tabs.He built four wood benches for the playground and front porch, an outdoor toy box for the playground and a pop-tabs house for children to save pop-tabs for the nonprofit, which provides a residence for out-of-town family members with hospitalized children.
