Volunteer meeting: A volunteer orientation meeting will be held 2-3 p.m. March 11 at the Gaston County Museum of Art and History, 131 W. Main St., Dallas. The museum needs volunteers to help with school programs and special event; do administrative work; help with collections, exhibits and archives; greet visitors; work in the gift shop and more. Volunteers receive discounts in the museum shop.

Celebration of Women’s History: A celebration of women’s history program will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 9 at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum, 100 E. Mountain St., Kings Mountain. The program will feature weaving and spinning demonstrations, a book signing and program by author Shelia Ingle and living history demonstrations by the 49th North Carolina Civil War Re-enactment Group. Ingle is the author of the young reader novels “Courageous Kate: Daughter of the American Revolution” and “Fearless Martha: Daughter of the American Revolution.”

Visitors can view the exhibit “Home Made: Aprons from the Area,” a display of antique aprons belonging to residents of the Kings Mountain area. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. For details visit www.kingsmountainmuseum.org.

Arts on the Square: The sixth annual Arts on the Square outdoor art show will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 27 on the square in uptown Shelby. Local artists and crafters may submit applications to participate.

Booth spaces are 10 feet-by-10 feet. Booths fees are $70 each. Electricity is an extra $15. Fees are nonrefundable. Extra booth space is available free of charge to artists who will do demonstrations during the show.

Preschool Easter egg program: An Easter egg-themed program for preschoolers will be held 10-11 a.m. March 9 at the Gaston County Museum of Art and History, 131 W. Main St., Dallas.

This program is geared towards preschoolers ages 3 and older and will include a tour of the museum’s Edith Poston decorative egg collection, egg crafts and stories about chicks, bunnies and eggs. A snack will be provided after the program.

The program is free to members at the family level and above and $2 per child for others. For details call 704-922-7681.
